Best and easiest 3d map modeller

Post by principiante »

I'm new on this engine. I don't know where can I start. I think I must first learn about 3d world editors. I find one that it is easy, good and...free. Quark is a good idea? What's the Quake 3 world editor? Is it easy and free? Where can I download it? And, about documentation and help files? Thanks.

Quark seems a very good option, and is free for comercial projects, which is not very usual.

And about GTKRadiant?

I think two world editors are free, but what's better and easiest? Thanks.

Im searching for one right now too. My idea is to make a mini Q3 engine work-a-like in python with venom (Hence the entity ripper posted below) to have as a testing platform.

Quark works, but Im not to fond of the inteface. Messy.
gtkRadiant is very slick, but it wants the folders and textures etc from a Q3 install, which is kind of messy when you want to make something without any relation to Q3. And its non commercial use only, but since the compile tools are under the same license, does it matter?

Youll find more suggestions at this place:

I am trying to download Thread, but its tough going. I really dont like Fileplanet.

Thred3D is actually looking pretty darn good. It has this utility with it that allows you to create your own game definitions.. so you can just edit the Q3 one that comes with it for your own needs! How nice is that?

"does it matter? "

You can use the HL1 BSP instead of q3 bsp. So, you can perfectly use Quark with the zhlt compiler(it is made entirely by an user). An hl1 bsp compiler which is totally free for comercial too, like quark.

For what I saw, Quark is quite good.

qeradiant, hammer, worldcraft, gtk radiant, are not free for comercial.

qoole, quark, getic3d (this one includes an special bsp compiler) are free for comercial.

I'd go for the quark+zhlt compiling tools combo.
The links are in these forums, do some searchs.

Hmm..no, wait. I did not remember. I think the hl1 bsp loader for irrlicht is yet not ended....
