no the problem is not with the sss. the on image looks fine for the skin but both the hair look metalic.

Dual paraboloid variance shadow mapping with 3x3 percentage closer filter, and dual paraboloid reflexion mapping on the center sphere. :)
Lighting is basic per vertex.

are the houses floating on air? the shadow looks a little off to me.

I think that the very low roof corner is creating this illusion, but the shadows are fine. I dislike the ground- the texture is too large sized and reminds more of sea bottom landscape, than to a grass field one... :D

Voted for IMP because it is an interesting consept and I once planned to make something similar :D

Stefbuet's shadows are really nice, but I wanted to vote for actual game/application projects because they are what so called "ordinary people" (so not just us developers) will see of Irrlicht : )
