Is that doom that when you are working on something also you find that lot of other people are working on the same thing and ask questions that are related also to your work?
For example when I started to work months ago to my game (a space game) I've seen born several discussion about space games and I have seen some project announcement (3 space games, 2 complete games). and some questions (for example a question about skybox with stars background.)
I'm sure that before, space games were rarely done with irrlicht.
Another example. when I started with the Idea of "A game Template". several discussions about new game engines started.
So is there any soprannatural cause that force all the people doing always the same things?
sorry for english I hope I given the idea of what i mean
now the same thing is happening again with the world editor for AGT. XD.
your opinions? are all topics the natural evolution of what was written before?

After I published the first version of my "Stunt Marble Racers" game I saw a couple of threads that were also talking about marble games, so that I thought to myself: "why the f#/& is everyone suddenly doing marbles games? I thought I'd be the only one."

No, it`s not doom- it`s even a nice thing because this is a sign that this type of game (genre) is not dead, and there`re still other people creating such games, which usually means there are still people playing such games.
For the similarity in topics- I think it`s mainly because Irrlicht has thousands of users that are not active (not posting, only observing) or are not even registerd. And when there`s an announcement on some game they`re interested in some way, they join the topic posting some question or sth., which is say their first post. Which turns them "active" at least for a while. Soon after that they decide to make an announcement to show they have been working on similar matter and have something already done before the other announcent was made, as a simple "insurance" of eventual future abuses of such kind: "Ah, you saw my idea and started working on it. I was the first one and you copied the s#!t outta me and bla-bla-bla...". Or being "temporary active" (out of the ghost users` shadow) they ask a question about sth that bothers them for a while, which answer they did not find anywhere and.. bah... you got it, right?
And what`s the problem of other persons working on the same genre game? Whatever they come with, your game will still be unique. Well, whether it will be better totally depends on you in either cases.

I just want to comment on something, I know that when I get involved in something that is new to me, I start to notice all of the others that are also doing the same thing. So, it seems that I notice these things more and it has an affect of making me feel as though there are more than when I started!
bet thats hard to understand.

@stefbuet: I see mine as (almost) finished. I just need to get rid of the lines in the skyboxes. Maybe I'll do some big rework sometime in the future (e.g. a more stable network implementation), but not before I have added those features to my IrrOde wrapper (in a stable way).

yup, maybe some competition can be healthyXXChester wrote:Probably the most important thing I was ever told about ideas was "You are not the only one with that idea....ever" so I think if you feel your work has inspired someone else's work, than take it as a compliment, not as a insult.
Just my two cents.
