Book Proposal for a Irrlicht beginner's guide

Post by newton »

Hi,

My name is Newton Sequeira and I am an Author Relationship Executive.

Packt recently green lit a book on Irrlicht 1.7.1 Realtime 3D Engine: Beginner Guide and we are now searching for a co-author to develop the book.

This is an excellent chance to help out all the newbie game developers and help more and more folks to take up Irrlicht.

If anyone is interested please feel free to get in touch.

Thanks,
Newton

just make or use the current wiki, that way it would get finished faster and worked on by more people.

Well, many people prefer to have a real book on their side when approaching new things. And this one already has many important things covered. So it's a good chance for people with knowledge about the somewhat more advanced parts of Irrlicht to jump on and help not only themselves, but also the community. I'd really appreciate if someone would add some more chapters to this book. Only other requirements are some free time and fun with writing not just code

A few days ago, this book was finally published. You can find the details about this book, example chapter, and further ordering information on the publisher's site https://www.packtpub.com/irrlicht-1-7-1 ... guide/book
I already have my copy :D And I must admit that I found some very interesting parts there. So it's not just a beginner's book, although it focuses on the most frequently used stuff of course. Anyway, enough advertising here. Just one more thing: You can also order via amazon, and the Kindle version is even cheaper than the ebook on the publisher's site.

But I think the code examples are offered for download. Who wants a CD if you get it from the web? Anyway, it's a cactus I think.

The book is well written clear and easy to understand. Most of irrlicht stuff is showed. (enough for a beginner and also something interesting for an intermediate user). There's a chapter about shaders! Several tools are showed and explained.. A very good starting point if you plan to use irrlicht and already know some C++. Only missing thing seems to be a reference counting chapter (so someting is misteriously dropped in code examples). This is still not a game programming guide nor a very advanced book (but this is a beginner guide so that's ok).

seems like a good book.

Covers quite a few topics which I would need to learn.
