Scaling HME's bmp heightmap in Irrlicht

I'm kinda confused on this.
I used example 12, TerrainRendering, for my benchtest. I mean, it works; it uses a heightmap already, so I figured I'd put my own heightmap into it, see if i can get good results.

Well, the HME program does not make terrains like the example's terrain heightmap has it. It's very smooth.
I'm almost convinced this is more of an HME problem than Irrlicht but I was wondering if anyone here using Irr, and HME...<breathes> has any idea how to fix this.
I can shoot a video, place it on youtube if need be, just to show it...

Yeah, showing some more details in screenshot or video would help. Also naming the heightmap editor would help.
