Collision Detection

Post by Sparks »

Hi all,

I have been looking at Collision Detection Algorithm and The Irrlicht API, I was wondering wich algorithm where best suited for Irrlicht?

I saw we had bounding boxes on Nodes so maybe something like a RDC algoritm wich is an Axis Sorting algorithm.

That whats i'm aiming for at this point and I will start coding it soon, but this will only help me for object to object collisions. I will still need something for detecting collision with my map.

Something to remenber, is that I want to be able to catch the collision as an Event.

Hi, thanks for the post,

I think i'm gonna code my own detection, base on what Irrlicht can offer me. Don't know if it's the best thing to do but it will blend in nicely with my home made physics :). Found the algorithm i'm gonna use ( Axis Sorting ) looking how i'm gonna implement it.

Once it will be done, I will have, mouvement, collision and a keyboard manager starting to look more and more like a game :) but still lots to go! AI is gonna be hard ...

SO i guess no ones want to talk about Collision detection algoritm i find this weird cause i guess everyone need it in there project.

Hi Sparks
eagerly awaiting your code
because i'm having prob with irrlicht built in collision detection which uses triangle selectors .It greatly slows down my game.

have ur code finished yet?

you might wanna check out the Existence Game Engine. (http://phenomenagames.no-ip.org/)

Their AI pathfinding and collision is WAY excellent.

I think a fusion of Irrlicht and Existence would be major kick-butt.
