The Proving Grounds

Image

Besides many other things, it shows GPU based billboards, used for complex vegetation and all the other features that use to appear in my screenshots. The polycount is fairly high, the whole scene is composed of nearly 110.000 triangles (accelerated using octrees) and the frame rate keeps over 75 fps, which leaves some room for further processing, and improvements. I still have to test it with GPU skinned characters, but it is very posible that the performance impact is very low.

The machine testing this scene is a QUAD core i5 with more than enough RAM, the graphics card is a GeForce 425M and the OS is Win7 64 bits, though this means nothing if Irrlicht, and the application are compiled into 32 bits executables, and there is no multithreading. Though it is fairly powerful, the performance gaind compared to a GeForce8 8500 isn't that noticeable, so it is posible it would run around 45 to 50 fps on a machine like that.

EDIT: I have changed the image. I like this more :)

Imho the grass is kinda ugly because of the black edges, they ruin the whole screenshot(that and the stretched rock textures)

Not the best modelling, indeed. And the texture for the grass wasn't the best either. I'll have to improve that. Thanks for your feedback

don't use black color for the background of the grass texture. use green instead.

No, it was because i was multiplying the alpha channel by the color channel, I read somewhere that photoshop saved the images' alpha non premultiplied with the image, and thus, it was necesary to multiply back the apha channel. That code is already removed. (And that rumor is definately false!!! :( )

Rigid World.

Image

This is my first entry so be gentle :).
This is actually the result of about 9 months of constant work from me and a 3d designer, which resulted in a very playable demo of a game :). We are now currently working on a new game using the same base as this game, but better and upgraded ^^.

Thanks ^^ we worked really hard on that, took us about 9 months, currently were working REALLY hard on our new game, it's multiplayer with a lot of fun features including chatting, pets (that follow the characters), bosses, perfect synchronisation, items, etc etc ^^ gonna use that for the next months competition :D

Your wavy metal looks flat, could use normal / parallax / bump /etc mapping for its lighting.

Don't be shy :) as long as you don't post a direct rip from a tutorial with nothing changed then it's progress and you should be proud ^^.
I actually don't expect to win vs the previous pic, but it's still fun to add to the content of the site :).

Thanks for the tip ^^.
Yes, it actually is flat, we had some problems with that back when I took this screenshot, however now it should be fine ^^.
