Is the development of Irrlicht currently on ice? + Questions

Hi,

as you can see as the subject - there are my first question.

The current SVN is 4021 - for maybe at least one week?
How many developer are currently improving this engine?

Irrlicht was the best choice I guess, but Orge is very interesting to me.

Its very important that continiuesly the engine is improving and updating - ( like Orge? )

I like the style of Irrlicht - absoultly OO coded - where Orge seems that are ( dirty :twisted: ) coded.
( I know its wrong, but Irrlicht has the better code style :-) )

-> So I´m thinking to learn Orge because it has some better features..
But the only thing that I really dont want to change to Orge is
- Only a few tools
- The orge mesh format is weird
- I dont like the code style
- Doesn´t have so many import formats like irrlicht

Hm..

maybe I keep on Irrlicht. :)

What are you thinking about it?
I´m from germany ^^ So, if you find some errors , you can keep it!

Well, we have two main contributors from the dev team, and several community members providing patches and fixes on a regular basis. Having an SVN revision for a few weeks does not mean that there's no improvement going on. It's just not public so far. But yes, the update speed has decreased over the last month. Basically due to larger involvements in real life for the two remaining dev members. But that might improve again in the future, maybe due to returning dev team members or new core developers. At least the development will continue, next with the release of 1.8, which is not yet fixed, though.

Are the other team member have given updates on their situation? Is Bitplane, Blindside, Rogerborg, Luke and the other team members still have time to work on Irrlicht?

I think the first 3 names you mentioned are all busy in day-jobs right now. Don't know about Luke. Not sure if any of them plans to come back or not - I think at least Bitplane still wants to code for Irrlicht. And no-one ever knows what Thomas is up to - could be another patch-bomb is coming one day from his side.

So its just Hybrid and you, CuteAlien right now? What's Niko actually do on Irrlicht these days still?

More people still have svn-access, but this year it's mostly been Hybrid and myself who checked in stuff. Although lot of patches we checked in (maybe even the majority) have actually been written by other people on this forum. So it's not really correct to say that it's just us 2 - we're just the guys doing the last checks and merging in many cases. Niko still maintains irrEdit to my knowledge and occassionally passes on patches which people send to him instead of posting them here.
