Jedi Outcast and Academy source not available any more.

Post by Mel »

In case you feel curiosity, seems that after the disappereance of Lucas Arts as developpers, some of their projects have gone GPL. In the case of the Jedi Outcast game, i remember they had a modified Quake III map format that allowed them to load larger maps than those of the original Quake III engine.

But they are still correct. Seems like SF has some problems again.

They were removed just a few days after the code was released. I think it was just some people angry at Disney for changing Lucas Arts business model from developpers to licensors, and that was some form of revenge.

So... are they removed permanently? If so does anyone have the source (I'd like to have a look at it)?

Yes, they are removed. The day i posted the links, they had the source already up, even i browsed some files, but the day after, the project files were removed already, and seems the pages have been already removed from SF

Wow, you are my hero. *I almost thought this would be another lost treasure*

Time to dissect this and figure out exactly what black magic they used.

Not any very distinct than that running quake III arena, that is for sure. I knew the Jedi Outcast QIII maps were hacked to allow areas larger than 8192x8192x8192 quake units, now it can be checked.

Hm? My netradiant allows -65536 to 65536.

Could be an ioq3 extension, but I don't think the BSP format has changed, as its still compatible.

I can't tell. I knew there was some sort of hack with the Jedi Outcast quake III levels, i guess that mostly to disable them to be loaded outside JO. But also, the rumor was that it allowed the game to load larger levels than those that QIII arena could load originally.
