Hi,
For my Hi-Octane clone project I was playing around a bit with Irrlicht Demos I found on Github under "netpipe/IrrlichtDemos".
Some of the example are really great, and I would like to use some of the ideas and media files for my project as well if possible.
I linked an example picture here using the CloudSceneNode and a lensflare in case you are interested: http://wolfalex.bplaced.net/hioctane/hi ... nenode.png
I would really like to use the image "Environmental/desertdemo/data/skydome.tga" as a Skydome, together with the
"SceneNodes/cloudscenenode" SceneNode which looks amazing. This SceneNode uses again three images "cloud01.png", "cloud02.png", "cloud03.png", but in this case I have luck, because the folder of this images also contains a readme.txt file, which states that this images are from sauerbraten project, and are free to use. So in this case I am not worried, and I guess I can add them to the project.
But unfortunetly the skydome image above does not carry any information about its origin or the type of license. So I am not sure if I can even use it in my project. Because I am a beginner regarding licenses etc. I take this topic rather serious, and I want to do my best to prevent mistakes on my side.
I have the same problem with the image "flares.jpg" under the CLensFlareSceneNode (FeatureDemos/flares), and of course the SceneNode without the image is not really usable for me.
Does maybe somebody still know who created this demos and assets in the first place? And if I can/may use assets like this in my OpenSource Github based project? I am very thankful for every information I can get.
Question Origin Specific Irrlicht Demo assets
Re: Question Origin Specific Irrlicht Demo assets
Netpipe collected a bunch of irrlicht demos from different sources. I think he even has some of my stuff in there. If you want to find the original source, you could try doing a search for irrlicht on github and go through all the projects that come up.
If you just want some good skyboxes to use then there are a ton of free skyboxes on itch.io. Here are the assets that come up on itch.io with a search:

Re: Question Origin Specific Irrlicht Demo assets
Thank you very much for your hints. I spent the last hour searching through all projects at Github with the Tag "Irrlicht", but unfortunetly I was not able to locate the original sources/projects. Or at least Github did not show them to me using this tag. Maybe if I search more I will find them. I also tried to search at sourceforge.net, because maybe some of the older demos are taken from there. But I was only able to find some of the example/demos I saw in the Netpipe collection as well, and not the ones I was interested in. I will continue to search, it is a good starting point.
I really appreciate your hint to itch.io; I was not yet aware of this site. I just do not understand why Skydome images are much less available then Skyboxes. To be honest I have not yet much experience with using skydome and Skyboxes, but the one time I tried the Skybox gave me graphical problems in my project, the skydome worked out of the box. Thats why I used the skydome image at the end. It is just a little bit annoying that almost all the demos/examples I looked at do not give the license or origin information of images and so on

Re: Question Origin Specific Irrlicht Demo assets
I understand your frustration. There are a lot of demos from irrlicht that were created over a decade ago by people who may have moved on to other projects.
If you are using Skydomes then you should be fine with a panorama image. You can also check opengameart.org for skyboxes as well.

Re: Question Origin Specific Irrlicht Demo assets
I am very thankful for every Irrlicht demo that is out there, with or without license or origin information, because I learn a lot from them.
The problem is that I always think and worry too much, but that is my personal issue, and not a problem caused by somebody else
I will make more experiments using skyboxes, the positive effect would be that I have then much more selection of available game art. Thank you for your help.
