Which modeller should I use?

(sorry if a million other people have asked this question)

I'm going to make .x models, and I was wondering which free modeller would be best to make them with (if there is one). I have blender, but I'd also like one specifically geared for .x models (if there is one).

thanks.

JTEdit (http://www.jtgame.com/jtedit) is specifically for .x, but it is very buggy + no longer in development. Blender is IMHO the best free solution for producing animated .x models

wings3d really kicks butt for modeling characters:

it doesn't export to .x but you may export to 3ds, import into blender and use Jox's X exporter for blender. You can also model your stuff in wings3d and use blender for texturing-rendering-animating purposes.

Anim8or might also be a good option, it can export to 3ds format as well.

Use Metasequoia 3D LE with built in .X exporter.

This wonderful piece of software is stil my prefered. Supported file formats:

SUF (DoGA CGA)
DXF (AutoCAD)
LWO (LightWave3D)
3DS (3D Studio)
COB (trueSpace)
WRL (VRML)
X (Direct3D)
SCE (SoftF/X)
OBJ (Wavefront)
RDS (RayDream)
RSD (PlayStation)
POV (POV-Ray)

It is better to use shareware version because LE (free) version is missing some functionalites. You can always save data to native .mqo format, and resave data from LE version. You can't register shareware version because only people from Japan can do that.

maybe it would just be easier and post a link to the wiki?
