New game: Imperial Guard

Post by VeneX »

I am developing a new game called Imperial Guard. It will be a FPS with RPG elements. The story: "You now you will be killed in the future. You have to kill your own murderer." It sounds strange but my first update on my site will be an all explaining movie! There is only one problem... I don't know how to upload my site. After a long time of searching a free host with PHP and MySQL I have found sourceforge. I have connected to the server with a ftp manager and uploaded my site in the incoming folder (as written on the sf site). When I visit imperial-guard.sf.net there is the message of an empty ftp server: ïndex of /". Can someone help me please?

The FTP upload thing is for file releases. To access the website is a totally different method.

I tried to use cygwin. The program said that no such file or directory was found. I used username@shell.sourceforge.net:home/groups/p/pr/projectname/htdocs

It doesn't work... :(

Did you try:

venex@shell.sourceforge.net:home/groups/i/im/imperial-guard/htdocs

I haven't used Cygwin to do SCP. The one I use is Secure-FTP.

So, what license is your game going to be under?

I asked what license your game would be under. Since it's on sourceforge, it is open source. Are you going to be publishing it under GPL, MIT, etc?

I am so sorry but I don't understand the program...

Hostname: sourceforge.net <-- ???
Username: venex
password: password using to log in at the sf site???
private key: should I do that?
protocol: I think SFTP, is that correct?

When I am connected I am in the "/home/groups/v/ve/venex" root, this isn't correct...

If you logged in that far, then you just need to change from your home directory to your project's directory.

This is the easy part. Setting up SSH to be able to access and upload your source to CVS... now that's hard. I still have nightmares of PuTTY, uploading keys, waiting a day to make sure I did it right...

When you get a SourceForge site, you will need to set the repository up and choose a license for your applcation. Here is a link to the OSI approved licenses: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/
6. LICENSING AND OTHER TERMS APPLYING TO CODE AND OTHER CONTENT POSTED ON SOURCEFORGE.NET »

Use, reproduction, modification, and other intellectual property rights to data stored in CVS or as a file release and posted by any user on SourceForge.net ("Source Code") shall be subject to the OSI-approved license applicable to such Source Code, or to such other licensing arrangements that may be approved by OSDN as applicable to such Source Code.

Maybe it should be better if I use your hosting on eve-corp. Does your host support PHP? And how much space do I receive? Is it possible to upload with a "normal" ftp uploader?

PHP - Yes, version 4.3.2.

Space - We are sharing it between all projects. The only hard limit is 1 Gig for all of the projects. As long as you don't get silly and upload tons of non-development stuff, there shouldn't be a problem.

FTP - Yes. This too is shared. I am only allowed 10 direct FTP connections, so I rotate them in and out as people need them. There is also a way to upload files via a webpage.

One question left...

Is it possible to use a MySQL database at your host?

Yeah, I got it. I just haven't been home yet to be able to set up the system.

MySQL isn't part of the free hosting.
