About «FAQs, Howtos, and tool lists»

Post by eXodus »

The «FAQs, Howtos, and tool lists» room has been mistaken for a help room numerous times. It proves that the average user can't RTFM. What's so complicated in : A forum to store posts deemed exceptionally wise and useful?

Just like in nowadays society, we could address this problem by making the room's name obvious enough, even to the lowest common denominator. This could something like the "Yo i found something cool check it out" room where posts would be rated with «thumbs up» or «no thumbs up». You get the idea...

What do you think? Could an admin do everyone a favor and rename this oh so complicated room?

Change the " Don't ask questions here " to

Don't ask questions in this section that's what all the other
sections are for. But then that would only work for the people
who can and do take the time to RTFM

can guest account be disabled in only particular forums? Im not at all familiar with the phpBB forum software, so I dont know. But if it is possible, even if people dont want ot totally disable guest, I think guest should be disabled in FAQ forum at least. IMHO the only reason for guests is to allow those who have just started to ask a quick question about hte engine when they're still not sure if they want to use it. Only those who have experience with the engine should be posting FAQs and there's no reason why anyone whos been using the engine for a while shouldnt register
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

I think you should have the FAQ section be moderated, like a moderated listserv. I say we put Exodus in charge, it will give him something to do besides telling everyone to RTFM, which is a bit difficult when there is no M!:D

I agree with adding a moderator to the FAQ section. People are going to post questions and other non-FAQ related messages no matter what, so it would be nice if we had someone that could do some house cleaning.

If this gets renamed to a "Yo I found something cool" then fine, but there should still be a "FAQs HowTos and Tool Lists."

Could a new "FAQS and Howtos and Tool List page" be locked and only postable by an admin?

Yes. You can set each forum with it's own set of paramiters.

As for adding a moderator there, the mods here are already mods in the faq forum.

Raname it? Naw. No need. Just need to move the extranious posts out.
If it exists in the real world, it can be created in 3d

Wrong, there is a FM. In fact, there are even two!

FAQs, Howtos, and tool lists
A forum to store posts deemed exceptionally wise and useful

While this should a nice clue at what not to post in this room, some people don't seem to understand it.

Need easier english to love me long time? Look at the very first post in the room.

Announcement: Don't ask questions here.

I only tell people to RTFM when they should and no, I don't want to clean some blind retard's posts.
