I'm all bored and poop..

Post by Midnight »

Just winding down from a good 3 day coding binge... nothing special or anything just working through all the bull that guice throws at me.

Truth is I lost the will to produce this thing ages ago only a small glimmer still remains and thats mostly due to demand (if there is any) and the fact that it's halfway to the vision I had almost a year ago.

I've learned a lot (if not everything) about C++ and programming from Guice alone (almost) it's been a great learning experience and hopefully useful addition to the Irrlicht community.

I'm just so damn bored lately since (as some of you can probably relate) I don't have much social life since I got deep into computers about 5-6 years ago. before that there wasn't much of anything for me except TV and movies maybe a few parties and friends back when i had those still.

I'm getting older faster (at least it seems that way) sitting behind this death trap. My dreams of being a world famous game designer creep closer and closer everyday. Also we are very close to opening the internet cafe I talked about months ago. you wouldn't believe the BS I've had to put up with in life it's truly amazing I've made it this far.

I'm sorta burnt out on coding and games and generally the computer itself. I'd like to get out and do something but most of my friends are old enough to have families and stuff and this being a rather small town...

In short I live in hell... and Murphy doesn't like me very much.

I'll go on wielding my icicle sword as always and doing what i can leaning on the brink of madness but damn is it hard to maintain. Hope I slaughtered your boredom for 10mins I know I did mine. Peace out...

I'm feeling pretty burned out myself, past the planning stage and knowing how much code i've still got to write.
I recommend going out, getting drunk and make a complete dick out of yourself, that usually gives me inspiration to hide behind my conputer for a few weekends :D

whoa! Midnight, that was even better than your poetry!

Don't worry, I'm 33 (old for some) and also spend a ton of time in front of computers on a daily basis, but the guys are right. Even not liking it, try to go out; for a beer, for a walk, for a cig, just to take some fresh air and see that the planet is still inhabited. Or get married, hehehehe, my wife is who reminds me of doing so, otherwise I'd have cracked up a long time ago. I must tell you that I feel weird when we go out, specially at night, and see the ton of ppl on the streets out having fun; I start wondering: "man, am I becoming geekie!". But married is a different story, you got your couple to go back home and talk and stuff. I guess if I were still single and went out I'd go nuts in a bar, haviong some beers and meeting some chicks, which may be fun but also dangerous. hehehehhe

The other catalyzer I got is my dogs. They're the best way of discharging bad energy. But best thing is to keep your mind busy, it'll help you from going nuts.

enjoy your boredom!

Afecelis about dogs lol , i also have one(name Frodo), but he is so crazy... I think he was kiddnaped by aliens in the past, because he is really unnormal; he got a lot of phobias , for example one day he ate a big spider but after few seconds of eating it, he throw the spida out of his mouth _^_ can u call this normal ? =[

Also when he is outside my huge garden he is running all the time, i think he even measured somehow the longest routine in the garden T-T

This dog is suprising me every day, but i wouldn't call him a bad energy gatherer...

My persian cat(name Furby) is also as crazy as my dog, but fortunately in other way, he prefers sleeping all the time on the sofa, but i cant hold him too long because he has got tickles T-T

My flea bitten cats are all I really have.

I have no money my vehicle is uninsured and it has a hole in the gas tank.

Go out and have a beer for me I'm stranded here whether I like it or not.

Tis good thing I don't own a gun...

How do you expect me to get to work?

I did construction for a few years I ran a carlot for awhile I can detail the poop out of a vehicle.. I've pretty much done everything there is to do and currently I'm working on getting my internet cafe open and later my own game design company.

and yourself?

I'm just out of college. I had a couple of contracts in IT and I'll go to the university this winter.

The IT world is going down around here. If you're lunky enough to land a job you get paid $8.50 an hour. And you got to have 10 years of experience and speak japanese...

Must be nice I don't think there IS an IT world around here just a lot of pine trees and hill billy old people.. hence me bringing the IT world here by opening an internet cafe.

Guess you had to get on that train ten years ago in japan...

I think one of the best jobs I ever had was about 9 bucks an hour... which is why I dabbled in business for the past few years attempting to become my own boss and make money worth speaking of... which has failed so far.

If this idea doesn't fly I'll end up rotting away at a factory or something and continue trying to start a game company in my free time. which is what I've been working on for the past 3-5 years or so.. in between gaming breaks of course.

IT jobs

Post by buhatkj »

true enough, the market is rough.
I dunno if you guys are from the US or not, but I can speak for my little corner of the USA (pennsylvania) that the way it seems to go here is that those who are lucky enough to find an IT job generally have to commute at least an hour to get there, and get paid half of what they might have made for the same job 5 years ago. meanwhile all prices, especially gas, have gone way up.

net result: everybody is poor, and in gobs of debt. for me it is predominantly my school loans, but i also have my car payment, so things are always a bit tight, and if either me or my wife was ever to lose our jobs we would be all sorts of boned, cuz we dont have enough income to save ANYTHING in the bank.

all the same I know it could be lots worse, because the majority of guys i went to school with are between jobs or still havent found a degree-related job (working at staples and crap instead...). I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to get this job, but still the money SUCKS. Still, its sure better than nothing :-/

Like many ppl on these forums I wanna be a game developer someday, but for the moment I'm glad to just be able to pay most of my bills while learning as much as i can and working on stuff in what little free time I do have.
My irrlicht-based projects have gone underground for now, but if you want, check out my webcomic instead! http://brokenboomerang.net

As for me, I live up there in that place called Canada. Or should I say Quebec? A province of mentally retarded elitists who think the only way to be unique is by turning over everyone that's not native. A province of public services and state enterprises where everything should be free to anyone, with income tax wages up to 48%. Who says communism?

On a more positive note, recently Ubisoft Montreal just made a deal with a local University. They will train students, whom are in their 2nd year in IT, to become game programmers. On top of that, they guarantee a job to the graduates.

I guess I won't have such a chance twice in my life. Steps for the following years are pretty much as follow: get a job, back cash for the university (which is almost free anyway, thanks to some french canadian Stalins), graduate, build experience in the industry and GET THE gently caress OUT OF HERE!

I second that! Or start doing something really mind numbing (damn you washing up) than i'm always up for coding even if its just debugging pointless problems or tedious stuff like fixing memory leaks. grr....

Wow that sounds like an awsome oppertunity eXodus I would definatly be on top of that over anything.

Personally I want to OWN the company I've learned a lot about business over the years and don't want someone making MY money.

It's also a personal challenge to become the largest game design studio in the world but hey I have little resources lets be realistic... I plan to do what rockstar did and they are just a state away.

Might have to sellout to a large company eventually for publishing and hopeful I'll get the chance to deal with the console in time.

Personally I like playing FPS's and other multiplayer related games.

PC for me please and as such I'll direct my early work here only.
