VC++ 2005 registration. pls explain

Post by Cristian »

WTF is this thing?
I hit "Help->Register Product..." and an Opera window pops up telling me to select a certificate (btw, Opera does not consider MS certificate safe LOL :D ). Well a page appears telling me that I MUST get a Microsoft Passport.
But I don't want/need a Hotmail account or MSN or Passport for that matter, is there no way arround this?

if you downloaded the IMG files to install visual c++ then you do not have to register, its an option.

You can always create one with a fake name used just for registering, thats what I do anyways.

YAY I won't need to register anymore cause I just DELETED IT :) HURRAY!

Man what a piece of s**t! It needed some old header from MSVC 6 (objbase.h) to compile stuff with DX9, and after that it made linking errors.
Same linking errors with OpenGl apps.

I barely got Irrlicht working with it, with substantial speed drawbacks.
Not to mention that the IDE is based on .NET itself so it's reeeaaalll sloooow when redrawing (slower than Xfree86).

Also the DX9 SDK told me to upgrade my OS. I told it Shift+Del
and set up the SDK manually :). VC++ recommended that as well but it was not mandatory :)

I use Win2k, I've tried XP before SP1, after SP1, and after SP2. Still poop. if SP3 keeps the crap commin Win2k will be the best my PC will see.

I also had Xandros, Ubuntu and Red Hat for some time, but had some hard time developping for win32 under linux (it is possible but it's damn hard).

in other words, you are a n00b and have no clue about things like that :)

Ok, I'm sorry that I'm only 17 and not a computer genius already. And that I'm not yet in computer science college either. I believe that for my age, setting up the Code::Blocks environment to build Irrlicht, crystal space, OpenGL and DX9 apps with the gcc compiler is good enough.

And if you're so god damn smart, what does WinXP give me as a game developper, hmmm?

You will find that comes in the Platform SDK.
It sounds like you don't have the Platform SDK and possibly not the DirectX SDK.
Just because you don't know how to make it work right off does not mean it is a piece of poop.
And if you're so god damn smart, what does WinXP give me as a game developper, hmmm?
wtf?
Where did that lash out come from?
You prefer Win2k. Yeah for you.
Considering you just said:
Ok, I'm sorry that I'm only 17 and not a computer genius already. And that I'm not yet in computer science college either.
do you really consider yourself a game developer that would notice the differences between various flavors of Windows?

Hey man, learn what you can, from wherever you can, but don't be afraid to say you don't know what your doing when you ask about something.
And if you're so god damn smart,
What the gently caress, really?
Is this attitude necessary?
Another example of why the 'guest' feature ought to be gotten rid of.

Actually, LuckyMutt - I believe this came from GFXStyler's comment...

I too would take offence at that. *shrug*

People have to take flames like that with a grain of salt, it won't say much for you if somebody's like "j00 R n008 LOLZ!!11shift+1" and you get bent all out of shape over something stupid. Wait a second, why are people flaming in the first place? Meh, not my problem...

I understand him being put off by that comment, I am just wondering where the OS nonsense came about.
Its hard to take a n00b with an attitude seriously.
"oh yeah...well then blah blah blah!

@Conquistador - What a great Canadian attitude that post is! I'm gonna emmigrate! No wait...its too damn cold up there.

Oh, c'mon man be serious, you think I'm not registered in the forum? LOL Of course I am, I just don't use the login.
That is a proper attitude. I just said "And if you're so god damn smart"... I did not swear like others do.
I knew that those headers come in the Platform SDK, but I just thought that MS had been nicer and had included a part of them (since VC6 has 180 MB and VC 2005 has 245 MB instaled). I have the DX9 SDK (I did state that before)

I have a slow connection and it took me 24:55:35 to download VC 2005, and 10:28:44 for DX9, so you should realize why I was so pissed off with MS last night, especially since out of those 270MB taken by DX9SDK I use only 25 (libs, headers, and api docs) . MS does not suck for its products as for its services. I understand upgrading my OS when it is deprecated, but I do not like being forced by installers to do so.

BAH, why am I even wasting time here? I should be offline writing my project's Game Design DOC.

There is always the option of getting the SDK's and the VC 2005 on a CD by mail.
