Any way to do proper decaling in irrlicht?
Hey, is dere anyway to do proper decaling in irrlicht? I mean there is a decal scene node but all it does is make a quad and apply a texture on it which is useless for curvy objects or even corners of walls! So is there any proper way of using decals?
I used a billboard in my game, for bullet explosions, intially i had the explosion quite big which meant the billboard would disappear through part of the wall most of the time due to the billboard rotating to face the camera, but then i made it sufficently small so that it didn't get partially hidden by the wall, or it's at least not noticeable.
That's probably not much use to you... But that's all i know!

A decal is a texture which is put on top of an already textured mesh without replacing or hiding all of the original texture. So it's usually used to add small changes to the original textures, e.g. for adding bullet holes or add visual hints.
Projected textures can be thought of as slides being projected to the scene. You define the position of the projector and the texture is put visually correct onto arbitrary surfaces. But this requires some calculations and matrix manipulations. Due to the additional informations required it would be probably best to implement it as a TextureProjectorSceneNode.
BTW: Google shoudl bring up very useful links on both topics
