OK, then I'd say Irrlicht needs an upgrade on it's internally created shaders. Oh well. Does anyone know why my OpenGL apps don't cause Vista to go into Basic(instead of Aero) theme, when other OpenGL games do. It happens automatically when I load up other OpenGL things.

i thought realistic as in not cartoony like realistic textures etc, or at least thats what i believe he means. I'm would think he meant realistic like Crysis :) Actaully I'm not sure what and how realistic he meant, and because he wasn't specified, I went ahead to specify the details of how "r...

actually many phones are powerful enough to run low poly 3d games, why do you think the new big thing with indie engines are iphone support? exactly what I mean. "low poly 3d games" The OP wants something as realistic as possible, which is this case isn't very realistic, or high poly eith...

To be fair i was pretty surprised that you'd be able to find any reasons why Irrlicht would be better than an engine made by ID Well, idTech 3 was released in 1999. In nine years Irrlicht should have been able to surpass it, not even ID is able to make engines that can stand nine years being the be...

I think the main excuse you could give in this case is the fact that the "Quake" line of engines is genre-specific, and Irrlicht is not. I know most of the demos on this site are FPS based, and Quake maps are used(at least the file format), but Irrlicht can do any type of game. You'd have ...

As far as versions of shaders, aren't they backwards compatible? So like the code that is currently used specifies it wants version 1.1. But if you specified 2.0 instead, wouldn't this get rid of the error, and allow the same "high level shader" code to be used? I don't much about shaders ...

Strange Errors on Vista

I never caught this before. On my machine with windows Vista home Premium(graphics NVidia9600GT), D3D works perfect with irrlicht. If I try to use OGL, it won't draw, though the consoles show no errors. If I get rid of the "Aero" theme in Vista, OGL works fine. Any ideas. Also, on the same...

Not yet. But the example that came with the SVN code worked fine. I still have more testing to do though. Any recomendations on how to get a good video. The only thing I can think of is with an external camera.

I currently use DInput8 for my projects instead of the Irrlicht's event manager, though I aquire all devices in nonexclusive mode so that Irrlichtr will still recieve input as well. I can freely give out the classes I use if anybody were to want them, though they aren't anything special, they do work.

Spreading WinCE device news

Hello. I would like to spread the news of the upcoming support for WinCE in Irrlicht to one or more forums/websites I browse, such as www.modaco.com. I think this could benefit Irrlicht as far as gaining more users as well. Would there be any problems with this?? I just want to make sure. I wouldn't...

I learned a lot of OpenGL from NEHE myself. I did this before looking at all at a 3d engine like Irrlicht, but I agree with the above that is is worth knowing at least the basics.

I hereby commit to reciting this ten times before responding to the next AAA RTS FPS MMORPG Project Announcement. ;)

I kind of have to agree with Virion here on some of this. I don't really say we need our own format, but we need a good one. I'm not sure about collada, but I know b3d would be just fine. I don't know how to do it myself, but I may have a look to see if I can't figure it out. We need some good expor...

That's mean. ... I will of course apologise for being mean if Violet apologises for being a nobjockey. ;) Don't worry. I don't expect you to apoligize for it, especially since you are right. We all make mistakes, including me, but what's important is that we admit and correct them instead of preten...
