where can i find the irrlicht engine? the downloads page only contain SDKs

Software development kit required to develop applications with the Irrlicht engine. Included is the documentation, the source code and a precompiled version of the engine, 18 tutorials, some useful tools, exporters, a cool interactive demo wich shows the capabilities of the engine, and a lot more.
You will find the dll and headers in the SDK which are required to use the library. It is not an executable. Check the tutorial page (
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/tutorials.html ) for instructions on setting it up with your compiler.

But there are also about 20 binaries for Windows included (examples and tools).

All examples come with tutorials, and there are even more. Check the Irrlicht website

Quick hint - open your eyes and use those things in front of you called the mouse, the keyboard and the monitor.
What does the debugger tell you? You did use the debugger, didn't you?
