First, sorry for my bad English. My primary language is Russian, and with English I have big troubles
I don't understand - why Irrlicht so slow??? On my PC (AMD Athlon XP 1700+/256 MB RAM/ATI Radeon 9100) Irrlicht-0.6 TechDemo show on OpenGL 25-40 FPS, on DirectX - 50-60... This is no bad, but TechDemo's graphic is VERY, VERY primitive and simple... Another engines shows 100 and more FPS on any 3D API!
Maybe I wrong?
It could be that they (most likely) put the maximum framerate on about 70. Maybe the sound system is lagging you out. Anyway, personally, I don't use irrlicht for it's speed but ease of use.
I agree with Dragon7, it's pretty easy to use. As it evolves I hope it will get a little faster. (I get 30-60 fps in the Techdemo with p4 1.6GHz, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 8500 128MB). Note that the collision probably is a large contributer to the lack of speed. If a seperate physics engine is used (Newton Game Dynamics, or Tokakmak for example) things should be a little faster
With the TechDemo I get about 20-25 FPS. 500Mhz, GeForce2 MX 400 64Mb. 128Mb RAM. It is alittle slow... and with games made with 3DGS I get the normal 60 FPS or above... but like Dragon said, its easy to use.

Version 2 on its way!!
I get 80+ FPS with the Techdemo (PIII/733, 256 MB RAM and GF2 MX400 32 MB)... Make sure you've got latest drivers installed... BTW, if you experience problems speaking english - you can ask your questions in my forum (http://are.fatal.ru/ExBB/)...
