Right click on a blank part of your Windows desktop, and choose Properties. Then click on the Settings tab. Then click the button that says Advanced. Then click on the tab that says Monitor.
Screen refresh rate should be changed to the highest mode your monitor can handle. Going past that does not increase speed, and will be slower than the maximum amount you can handle. And if you go too far, your monitor won't work at all, as I have found out through trail and error.
Increase FPS with monitor settings! It worked for me!

How do I do this? I searched the net and read many articals but can't find out how to disable vert sync.
Searching through Windows XP help file doesn't help either.
I don't see the option listed anywhere.
Post any information about how to do anything at all that would speed things up please.
And while I'm at it, here is a link that explains a lot of the things Windows XP loads up, and what they do. Not really related to FPS in games, but check it out if you don't want Windows XP wasting ram on things you will never use.

well, your first tip is not a tip...
you just set the refresh rate of the screen...
you have 60 fps because your vertical synchronisation is on, so the frame rate is relative to the screen rate. if you want to have the real fps, set off your vert sync.
right click in desktop, parameter, parameter, advanced, tab with the name of your card, performance parameter, set sync vert to off.
and that s it,
the way is different for each card driver, i have a nvidia card...

The vert sync thing I found in the open glide settings of the card. Lot of stuff to look through. I turned it off, as well as the other two things mentioned.
No change. I even rebooted and still no noticable change in anything. Odd really.
How about this for a tip from me that doesn't suck. This guy list all the services that Windows XP has and what they do, and how much ram they eat up needlessly. Windows XP has a thing called services.msc you can run from the RUN thingy(thats the technical name for it I believe) and go down the list getting rid of what you don't need.

I've learned a lot about FTP, but still have a long way to go it seems. Oh well.

That is a really good web site I have used it before. I turned off my windows zero config service 2 years ago. When I got my wireless card and hub I couldn't figure out why in the hell it wouldn't work and Linksys sent me two replacements. I finally figured out that it was shut off after turning off my SQL server service.
