Project BOUNCE! [UPDATE! 0.4] new pics!!

Post by TheGameMaker »

Hi ,
I´m glad to announce my newest project, called "BOUNCE!"
It´s a mix out of pong, airhockey and hovercraft-racing.
currently done:

physics,
controlle,
ships,
goals,
a ball,
most of the gameplay elements(point counter etc.)
a dynamic camera(now with slower movement)
PostProcess Bloom
A better Level Design
A ingame GUI(ok.. just two goal counters^^)

still to do:

grafic quality
-rewritting the shader
-better Textures
game-menus
sound
particles

Further more you can select a Teamcolor out of 5 different textures.
The grafiks are only work in progress, programmers art, i think you know^^

Really like the look of it! Tbh i reckon the graphics look damned good for programmer art and don't think they need improving all that much. Though i guess the artwork around the walls could do with lining up a bit better, maybe so that each flat face is a piece of metal, instead of some of them having 'folds' in them... if you see what i mean...

Anyway, keep up the good work!

@roxaz,TheRLG: thx.. nice to hear!
@Virion: i will ;) at least till the first playable demo^^
@JP: thx, i perfectly clear see what you mean(if i have some time, i´ll fix it..)
but as already said its just a testmap.. more arenas will come.

some updates:
1: a ball ;) so now you have something to play with ;)
2: 3 different physics Levels(Arcade, Normal and brutal)
Arcade is quite simple to play.. minimalistic sliding..
Normal is some harder, but still less sliding than the old version
Brutal is lowest friction(and thats what you played in the first demo)
Ok. here is the link:

(for sake of size i just hav uploaded changed datas, so combine the two archieves..)

art looks good.

models are very nice.

collision is crap.. key input is flawed.. game modes are broken.

for an unfinished project which seems to have potential and based on the overall concept.

on a scale from 1-10 I'll give it a solid 7.

mostly because I hate the camera.

nice work though keep it up.

"art looks good."
"models are very nice."
that is ofcourse nice to hear..

"collision is crap.."
waht exactly?? are there problems(ships flying throught the wall ´n stuff?)
"key input is flawed.."
yeah.. there is a little problem with rotating.. but once more: what are you meaning??
"game modes are broken. "
ok.. at least here I´m able to say they are defintiv not broken..
(every mode just changes 2 params, Movement&Rotating friction)
so maybe they are unbalanced, but not broken ;)

mostly because I hate the camera. " ok.. thats not very constructiv.. but uh would you be so kind, discribing a little bit more exact what you don´t like??
Is it to hectic??or zooms it to far in??(i´ll gonna change both in near future..)
so.. if you could discripe your problems a little bit i would be very grateful
(it would realy help me alot)
greets TGM

My two comments are:

Sweeeeeet!

and

I hate the camera too. The zooming in and out is too quick I think. I'd recommend having a "target" camera position (which would be the one it uses now) and have the actual position have a sort of max velocity so it will still get closer in when the game elements are close, but wont do it so fast that it makes the ball hard to hit.

I saw no problems in my short test play with either collisions or input, but I was just playing it by myself so that's not much of a stress test.

the problem with the camera is cosmetic.. in the sense that it moves far too quickly and is always zoomed a bit more then one would like... another problem is the cameras scale compared to the rest of the scene.

It appears like you're going for the miniture toy look.. but I think scaled up a bit might look better and feel better overall.

I apologize for being Midnight I know any words out of my mouth have to be worded perfectly otherwise people easily take offense but trust me my words and thoughts are ALWAYS of a constructive nature thats just how I operate. unfortunatly I'm still human and have made a few mistakes I'll be forced to pay for forever.

anyways about collision and key input... on second thought IDK which one it is or both.. same thing with game modes... this is whats happening.

sometimes the game loads no matter the choice...sometimes skipping choices. when it does that the controls are dead.. or collision is stuck.

other times it just loses control.. everything gets stuck OR the key input goes completely dead.

I can't even think of a reason this kind of stuff would happen but there you have it and I can't really describe it any better then that its very speratic almopst like it never runs the same way twice...

good luck! :(

yeah.. thats right.. the zooming in porblem is solved, and a zoomspeed limitation will be done in a few minutes...
It appears like you're going for the miniture toy look.. but I think scaled up a bit might look better and feel better overall.
Yeah.. some Comic/Miniatur look is intended.

no problem ;) just had to ask... for more detailed description of your wishes/problems
anyways about collision and key input... on second thought IDK which one it is or both.. same thing with game modes... this is whats happening.
hmm... dunno what you mean with "IDK"

sometimes the game loads no matter the choice...sometimes skipping choices. when it does that the controls are dead.. or collision is stuck.
other times it just loses control.. everything gets stuck OR the key input goes completely dead.
hmm.. never had THIS problem... all KeyProblesm that i had in fact has been physcial failures, (the ship wont rotate correct, it stucks with nearly zero depth in the ground)
I can't even think of a reason this kind of stuff would happen but there you have it and I can't really describe it any better then that its very speratic almopst like it never runs the same way twice...
hmm.. well.. thats my problem too...
Sweeeeeet!
good luck! :(
thx^^ gonna release a new version within the next day..
already done for this release:
better physic(won´t seize up that easy if you drive against a wall)
(dunno if "seize up" is correct meaning "festfressen" I´m a german.. so excuse my bad english)
better Leveldesign(there are some new walls which bring the ball more often back to the middle..)
Bloomshader (just for fun, some postprocess shader)
still to come:
better camera and better controls..
