Weekend Challenge #3: Machinima

Post by rooly »

Alright, this time, you've gotta use irrlicht and any media you can find, create, or otherwise use to make a small control-free visual sequence.

Props go to rewind, pause, and FF.

NO USER INTERACTION!

No limits to length, size, or anything else, but sound is a plus.

I don't care when you start, try to be done by Sunday at your local midnight.

Something to remember, The weekend challenges can be as complex as you want, take as long ot make as you feel is necessary. It's nothing more than a simple challenge to your coding skills (and possibly planning, and media creation skills). This is purely for fun. Its not a contest.

Besides, who's gonna compete for nothing more than kudos?

When governments compete...you get drafted.

So make a small video using the Irrlicht? Sounds fun. So it would be kinda like making a game trailer.

No, indeed, machinima for many ppl is the video editing for the poor man: allows making all real time trusting on 3d cards, so one does not need long video processing and expensive hardware...artistically, doesnt need to be uber hi res, it's ok to see the polygons: see it as a game intro, where you want to make something impressive, is also seen as a way to make shorts, and in some cases with more time investment, do like short films. Some use to put emotion into them, and in the case of intros, is the purpose, and to generate an inmersive entrance in the world/story of the game...

Is u sually done with old game engines, like quake3, etc...I see it really interesting proposal in irrlicht, and is something artists tend to like a lot...I'd do if I had the time...
Finally making games again!

Created something (based on my own project) to fit in this very original "competition", it was just for our own fun.
Download: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=39695 (Full source code is included)
[EDIT] Added the code into the original project, so there is only one download link now. :)
