About DirectX SDK

Post by williamlai3a »

I know that complie the engine in VC 2005 needs my machine to install DirectX SDK first. I have downloaded the DirectX SDK - August 2007.
And try to complie the Demo code. However, in the file CD3D8ShaderMaterialRenderer.h, line 13: #include <d3dx8core.h>
fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'd3dx8tex.h': No such file or directory
and I found that in the folder ~\Microsoft DirectX SDK (August 2007)\Include there is only d3dx9tex.h, but no d3dx8tex.h; and I tried to change from d3dx8tex.h to d3dx9tex.h, more than 100 errors come out.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem??

Thanks a lot.

just disable DX8 in your Irrlicht settings (IrrCompileConfig.h), because the DX sdk you got has no DX8 support anymore !!! ;)

Maybe this config option should be deactivated by default? It is irrelevant for Linux users and most Windows users probably don't have an directx8 sdk anymore.

Absolutely it should be disabled by default now. This catches out every new Windows developer, and there's little reason for it as those d3d8x* includes haven't been available in a DXSDK for at least a year (more likely a lot longer), and the next DXSDK won't even have d3d8*.h includes. It's well past time to pull the plug on default support for D3D8.
