Does Decals Work with irrlicht? (bullet Holes in walls) would be a worthwhile area looking into if not maybe a function may be a good idea. Like an addon to cast line where you choose a texture and if it hits wall then it draws the texture at that location.

It's been done several times. You should be able to find the source code here if you do a search.

To my knowledge no one has ever posted an actually *usable* decal system (i.e. with a manager that culls decals when there are too many)

But if I'm wrong, please correct me with a link 8)

Have anybody done some type of decal clliper.
For example when you shot at edge of the wall so it clips part that is out?

No. None of the proposed solutions have been usable. I suspect we want a stencil-buffer based solution, and hopefully someone (who needs it) will provide one sooner or later.

Hello, in the book I am writing for irrlicht, it will tell you how to make a feasable decal system for the FPS game you will make towards the end. So if anyone can wait until I finish the book, it will be in there. I dont have the decal system written yet, nor do I know how to implement it, although I think Ill be using alot of vectors and sprite functions. But then again, I dont know.... sorry for the pointless reply....
