port forwarding library?

Anyone know of a library or something of the sort that will forward ports automatically so the user doesn't have to go into his/her router settings and set it up?

I think NAT punch through is what you want... but unfortunately that requires an external server

I've been reading into it and routers are a pain in any network programmers backside, but you may be able to use just a PHP script on a web server... although don't quote me on this

Something tells me that that would be up to the mercy of the modem-maker. All of them seem to have different ways of port forwarding...

I've never been able to forward my ports even though I've gone through 2-3 different routers and modems. It's such a pain.

I'm confused; port forwarding is done on the router, which could be a modem, WiFi hub, Lunix goat pr0n server under the stairs, anything really, and usually but not always through a completely arbitrary password protected HTTP front end. How could there be a 'library' to do that to your (completely arbitrary) router from your (completely arbitrary) desktop/laptop?

heh.. enet (irrnet) is UDP based.. it passes by most routers and things but not all and still requires firewall access of course but does activate the autoallow thingy in windows firewall as do most things.

sorry I'm not hosting the files anymore my host shut me down.

but I believe blindside has alternative hosting through godsoft.

As far as I know, I've configured all of my hardware and software to let it through and it still doesn't work. I'm probably missing something obvious and sitting right in front of me though. I'll figure it out if I get bored enough again.

You want to look into UPnP or Universal Plug n Play. Most standard Linksys, Netgear, etc, routers support it.
