Free Installers? MSI

Post by dejai »

Does anyone know a good and very easy to use installer that can compress your game into a .msi or similar format, I have seen a couple though they required scripting and I really don't want to waist that much time just to make installers for my demos and games.

Maybe Bloodshed Quickinstall is OK. Haven't tried it yet, so I can't say what it does.

All installers require 'scripting' to some degree. How else would they know what files to include, and what to call the application when it's installed?

I use Inno Setup. The scripting required is very lightweight; you can start with one of the sample templates and have a basic installer done in 5 minutes.

I use Inno Setup too. Really easy to set up a basic installer.

I use Nullsoft Scriptable Install System(NSIS) - it is open source and cross-platform. The scripts are easy to code by hand, but I also use HM NSIS EDIT for the useful visual wizards. ;)

7-zip can compress to a self-extracting exe. Not really an installer but it has pretty good compression ratios.

Here's about 10 different installers you might want try. I use the Spoon Installer myself.

If your on windows XP it should have a msi maker included with it, though it might not be the easiest thing to use.
