Beneath a Steel Sky
Beneath a Steel Sky
I just finished that game and I must say, that was pretty darn good! My only complaint is that the guy should have rescued the gal. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Does anybody else here like it?
Hmm don't think I finished it, I remember enjoying it though.. I remember that at the start of the game it gave you the impression you were in some huge city, but as you explored you could only visit a few narrow levels, and spent all your time wandering around with the little robot with a passion for welding things.
My favourite point n click adventure games from that era were The Secret of Monkey Island and Lure of the Temptress

Yeah the game does kinda feel small. When I first downloaded it I was under the impression the story was going to be along the lines of Logan's Run. However, I did like the gritty feel of it. By the way, that little robot was Joey and at the end (spoilers) he becomes an android. I liked him; he added some great humor to an otherwise dark story.
Lure of the Temptress was OK, but I thought the story was way to simple and the ending was severely lacking. Is the temptress dead or just stunned from having the demon cast out of her? Why couldn't the dude just fight his way to the castle and avoid all the pointless stuff in the town? Why no sound effects? However, for its time, it's still a very good game.
Another one I enjoyed was Lost Eden, sadly I can't run it on XP, even with an emulator.
Too many point and click adventures nowadays have too little story, to the point where it's just a collection of (often poorly designed) puzzles. Examples of this are the Crystal Key and *shudders* Schizm: Mysterious Journey.
