Camera collision detection in 16.Quake3MapShader sample prg

Post by dlangdev »

I made improvements in the example 16 of Irrlicht 1.4Beta.

Current version: Camera has no collision detection.

Modified version: Camera has collision detection.

To add a collision, see code below.

In 16.Quake3MapShader directory, main.cpp replace the code with this new code...

Code: Select all

	/*
		add the geometry mesh to the Scene ( polygon & patches )
		The Geometry mesh is optimised for faster drawing
	*/
	scene::ITriangleSelector* selector = 0;
	scene::ISceneNode* node = 0;
	if ( mesh )
	{
		scene::IMesh *geometry = mesh->getMesh(quake3::E_Q3_MESH_GEOMETRY );
		node = smgr->addMeshSceneNode ( geometry );
		selector = smgr->createOctTreeTriangleSelector(mesh->getMesh(quake3::E_Q3_MESH_GEOMETRY ), node, 128);
		node->setTriangleSelector(selector);
		selector->drop();
	}

and this ...

Code: Select all

	scene::ICameraSceneNode* camera = smgr->addCameraSceneNodeFPS();

	scene::ISceneNodeAnimator* anim = smgr->createCollisionResponseAnimator(
		selector, camera, core::vector3df(30,40,30),
		core::vector3df(0,-30,0),
		core::vector3df(0,50,0));
	camera->addAnimator(anim);
	anim->drop();

	/*
		so we need a good starting Position in the level.
		we can ask the Quake3 Loader for all entities with class_name "info_player_deathmatch"
		we choose a random launch

	*/

Also added code for handling SPACE_BAR which makes the camera jump.

The whole program code is pasted below.

I would like to get comments on the jump code shown below...

What would be a better alternative to making the camera jump?

Thanks

Code: Select all

		if (event.EventType == EET_KEY_INPUT_EVENT &&
			event.KeyInput.Key == KEY_SPACE &&
			event.KeyInput.PressedDown == false)
		{
			wchar_t *msg;
			core::stringw str = L"EVENT: ";
			str += "Space bar;";

			core::vector3df cpos = Device->getSceneManager()->getActiveCamera()->getAbsolutePosition();
			core::vector3df jump ( 0.f, 320.f, 0.f );
			scene::ICameraSceneNode* camera = Device->getSceneManager()->getActiveCamera();
			camera->setPosition(cpos + jump);
		}

Here is the whole program code.

Code: Select all

This Tutorial shows how to load a Quake 3 map into the

As already written in the HelloWorld example, in the Irrlicht
Engine, everything can be found in the namespace 'irr'.
To get rid of the irr:: in front of the name of every class,
we tell the compiler that we use that namespace from now on,
and we will not have to write that 'irr::'.
There are 5 other sub namespaces 'core', 'scene', 'video',
'io' and 'gui'. Unlike in the HelloWorld example,
we do not a 'using namespace' for these 5 other namespaces
because in this way you will see what can be found in which
namespace. But if you like, you can also include the namespaces
like in the previous example. Code just like you want to.

	The OctTree optimizes the scene a little bit, trying to draw only geometry
	which is currently visible. An alternative to the OctTree would be a
	AnimatedMeshSceneNode, which would draw always the complete geometry of
	the mesh, without optimization. Try it out: Write addAnimatedMeshSceneNode
	instead of addOctTreeSceneNode and compare the primitives drawed by the
