free n tasty linux games

Post by SwitchCase »

I'm currently on the hunt for Linux games since I finally got my awkward broadcom wireless card working stably. I found the site, listing what they say is the top ten free games for linux: http://gamesuy.blogspot.com/2007/12/top ... games.html

If out have any recommendations it would be nice to hear them.

BTW by linux games i mean games which don't require use of WINE.

Thanks.

I recommend Nexuiz available at http://www.alientrap.org/nexuiz/
For 2d, I enjoy playing Freeciv -> http://www.freeciv.org/
and Wesnoth -> http://www.wesnoth.org/

BTW, if you are running Ubuntu, you can install all of the above applications/games from Add/Remove Applications. Go under the "Games" category, and make sure that you select "Show All Available Applications" in the upper-right corner of the window. :wink:

Check out the Linux Game Tome. Pingus is a favorite of mine and they made some new levels for it and revived it.

Out of interest, why not? That sounds a bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If you can find me a game that runs on just the kernel, I'll give you a wowwipop.

Perhaps we are using different definitions of "natively" or "Linux".

Lol. Point taken.

I was just looking for games that I didn't have to use wine... just interested because up to recently I have only ran games using wine. I'm just a boring person... nothing better to do lol.

I tried out "Vendetta Online", a twitch-based space flight mmo. Its like eve, with a joystick. You can play the first 8 hours free, and believe me, those 8 hours are enough to get you hooked. The subscription is only 5$'s too
