Why do graphics compiled with DX look so crappy? I mean, at the beginning I compiled everything with DX8 and I thought it was ok, but then I started using DX9 and I was Impressed, but lately I compile in OpenGL and the difference is major! Things look smoother, camera movement is likewise, shadows, textures, lights, look much better. Now, they say dynamic lights-shadows on models only work with DX.... WHY WHY WHY? Shouldn't it work with Open GL as well?
I noticed other changes when compiling the SpecialFX tut. in DX8/9 the water texttures 2 layer thing blends fine, and in OpenGL there's no transparency!!!!
Why is Irrlicht giving so much preference to DX???? Is it because of the use of the .x model format? or are there plans to develop for consoles? My only preference for DX would be if developing for the Xbox would be possible. I'd love to use the Xbox as an Architectural walkthru mini machine.
arrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!! (afecelis collapses in solitude)
DX-OpenGL question
Just because a feature isn't implemented in OpenGL or DirectX doesn't imply a preference towards any particular renderer. AFAIK they are very different to work with, it's is actually ( from what I have been told ) quite well implemented that switching between OGL and DX is as easy as one switch. I would imagine that there are bugs on both sides of the divide, bugs don't tend to care about balance and fix themselves so that there are an equal amount for both API's.
Personally I find that OGL makes the graphics look very poor, DX8 also, the only one that gives a decent render is DX9. I think it is mostly the computer you are using.
