Loading a sequence of levels.

Post by Mr. Moxie »

So I took LoadIrrFile example and made a demo out of it (80hrs). The demo got me an 8 week dev contract, from my previous publisher, to do a real small casual game.

Now I'd like to know, what the best way to load a sequence of levels is? Just as full blown game would do. Should I use an xml file, irr or just read an ascii file and parse the contents out.

The reason I ask, is because I want eventually, to read from an archive. So I don't want to do something not in this direction. My time line is too short to screw around experimenting. So if an experienced person can point me in the correct direction.

You can use the addZipFileArchive method to read a zip file..

It depends on what you want to read. Loading a .irr will give you a new scene, but nothing more. If you also want to store other information you'll have to use a different technique. Whether you use xml or create your own ascii format is your choice, both is possible (however, xml parsing might be a little easier).
As said, changing to a zip archive is transparent to the file system, you can use all those alternatives with or without zip archives.
