Post by dlangdev »

i'm trying to install the opengl sdk on my oem xp box and i couldn't, for the love of it--find the opengl sdk, it seems that my xp doesn't have opengl source headers and libs installed.

If you use the Visual Studio compiler you should get the Microsoft Platform SDK. You find that on the MS Homepage and it's called "Microsoft Platform SDK for Windows Server 2003 R2".

For gcc I'm not sure right now, but I think MinGW should already be delivered with the necessary headers by default.

warmer, getting warmer now. i'm getting a clue, finally!

i'm using only the 2008 c++ express, i'm that cheap i can't afford to buy one. that's probably why they (microsoft) don't want to support cheapskates like me.

anyway...

thanks for the help.

The platform SDK is free and should also work with the express edition. At least it runs with the 2005 express VS here.

Yes, PSDK works with the express version. If you pay for MSVC you'll get the PSDK already with the compiler, for Express you have to download it.

Why don't the OpenGL Foundation release their SDK for download on their own website? i.e. opengl.org

There is an OpenGL SDK available, but it contains other things than you might expect. The thing is that you need vendor support for the OpenGL implementation you use, so each implementation has its own headers. Although, besides some marginal differences, they should all be interchangeable.
