Are you going to have sub categories like in 2006? Such as full projects, scene nodes etc?

It might be a good idea to see how many entries there are first :)

Shopping Cart Revenge

I do really like his idea and his fast and open devolopment.
it is not final but for me it's one of the best projects I've seen here.
FuzzYspo0N keep working on this.

I guess there needs to be a decision made as to whether the project needs to be finished or not...

:> i am grateful for the nomination.

JP, i dont know if you were aiming the whether or not im finishing it? I definately am.

motivation :

a) full open soruce fullfledged 3d game with advanced techniques in the irrlicht engine, as a demo to what the engine can do even at its "current state:" ( state of awesome)

b) I havent seen any good looking full games in 3d released in south africa. Im trying to prove a point that team is possible (using a 3 man team atm) even if overseas, that games can be made "locally" and still be cool.

c) To break boredom, to build a portfolio, to learn about multiplayer and netwroking as well as irrlicht itself.

d) to break peoples mindsets that irrlicht is not as cool as other engines.

It seems i have no choice in my mind, but im having a HUGE amount of fun driving around an empty map. add ragdolls, and damage based combat and multiplayer. you get fun.

I WILL complete this, time factor is not definate, but i know it will be done not long from start date (main.cpp created 18 dec 2007)

So, I will review all the projects, and update this post to vote

Oh no, i wasn't suggesting you won't finish it at all! I'm sure that you will as you seem very committed to it!

I just meant that, imo, if a project should be considered for one of the best projects then it should at least be a finished project or have some solid release that you can run on your pc.

I could have announced THE best EVER irrlicht project which would blow everyone's mind and make them drown in their own drool and would of course won the best project of 2007... but then i might not actually release anything or get anywhere near finishing and so it shouldn't have been the best project as it wasn't really a project per se..

But of course requiring the project to be finished could cause problems as, for example, my irrAI project is an ongoing project which could be continued for years with many future improvements etc but as of now it's actually usable in people's projects so in a way it's sort of finished... hmm

So maybe projects just need to be playable/usable rather than actually finished.

agree, just playable - it's enough. You will find something to improve anytime. But how to judge if it's usable or not? For me it's enough if you can have fun with it. Or fun by including it to your project. It's all about FUN FUN FUN. :D

Ah i get it, so i shud release the demo u saw in the video? cos i can scale the stuff down a little and release that, by all means. i was keeping it for the black mark it might put on the bad physics, cos thats not how my physics is going to work.

Mine started late 2007, i had that demo running in 2007, was tweaking maps etc. I dunno, im not really after prizes or accolades, i just like to be in the runnings to give others stuff to work towards as an example.

hmmm, on one side it means your work will be less good (not that it is not now) and on the other side it means you won't finish it having at least a 0.1 release in January meaning you cant join the race..
Although this isn't Oscar and no one's gonna shoot anyone if you do so if nobody has anything against you joining, be my guest.

P.S
Don't forget it is 2007's Best's project though, maybe just continue the regular work on the project and wait 2008's?

Yea well what i meant was if you look at the video of the gameplay. that demo is ready to be played, i just scaled the textures down (was 65 mb now is 3 mb) relatively. So i can release it tomoro, i just hadnt zipped it up and let ppl play it cos i thought its better to wait. I think i wud wait either way, ill decide whether to let that fail demo be released(most likely)

FuzzYspo0N, you aren't forced to release it now.
I whould like to play it "uncopressed", but if you wish to let us play it now, you're wellcome.

If you want to improve it and release a version closer to the final one later, it's up to you.

Like MasterGod have said, there will be a 2008 award too.
But nevertheless I can't wait to put my fingers on your game.

thanks for the encouragement. Compressing the textures doesnt change how they look, by the way it still looks the same :)

I tidied it up already, ill probably let it out later today or tomoro if im able.

OH. and IM voting for this game :

I think that hovercraft game was in 2006 originally, but they're obviously still working on it, so does that make it qualify for 2007? So complicated!

But it's certainly an excellent looking game, even if it is very hard to control!

That's the game i was pointing out as a really nice quality irrlicht game.
