Texture Loading Speed

The textures themselves would still exist. My thought was that I would be able to load a single gif rather than 360 pngs. Kind of like what clavet said, except the compressed file would be a gif rather than a zip.

And yes, unfortunately I do need the alpha channels. I'm sure I can find another situation in which using archives could be viable though, so thanks.

My apologies to hybrid, but I'm not certain I understand completely his solution. Is the matrix you speak of the texture's transformation matrix? If so, would that not modify the display on all of the objects to which this texture is applied? (there can be many in this program)

There are really no features of GIF which would help in this situation. You can do exactly the same things with png.
Texture matrices are defined per material, i.e. you can change them on every mesh separately.
