You interviewed with EA? Really?
Even after EA spouse and the lawsuits?
Admittedly, the available choices are narrowing all the time.

Heh i didn't hear about that, though it was only a few months after when i actually had my interview!
tbh i went everywhere i could... i had 13 interviews and sent my CV to a few more companies on top of that. EA was one of the latter companies i went to when i was feeling rather desperate so even if i knew they were a crap company i'd probably still have gone!

Yes, it's lucky that you didn't end up in an evil soulless conglomerate.

It is pretty shitty. If you read EA's CEO's Letter to Take Two, its clear EA are just using bully tactics to push the deal to a close. Stating that Take Two will have to rely on lesser-known titles after GTA4's release. Which is a tough thing to face given 99.9% of top titles today are all rehash or installments of previous games. I'd love to believe in a perfect world where the big brothers can take these small pockets of potential under their wings and give them the tools and means to produce outstanding content...but they would rather just have the title of "Largest" back and whip-up their new minions into producing mediocre crap...
...until they shut the studios down of course, after their crappy games do crappy on the charts.
You can read the letter here:

Oh gosh, please tell me this isn't true! If Take-two sells out, then I don't believe that I can support Rockstar anymore!
EA has been known to make really bad decisions though, so I don't know. Anyone ever heard of Criterion's RenderWare?
Did anyone hear of EA acquiring a license to Unreal Engine 3 after buying Criterion?
Take-two has a lot of titles to fall back onto right now. They have Midnight Club LA, and GTA 4 coming out! They also have the RAGE engine which increases there productivity insanely!
EDIT: Oh well, nevermind, it seems as though EA is skeptical as to whether they should acquire Take Two or not, seeing as Rockstar is possibly splitting in about 1 year and 2 months. I personally don't care about the 2K games branch.

Urgh. Want to bet that if Take Two hold out that EA will employ Jack Thompson?
You know what scares me? That I'm only half joking.

I guess in related news, Intel have just acquired Offset Software. A small (now pretty big) indie start-up.

In latest news I thought that this was basically disbanded? Reasoning was given by EA on why they wouldn't want to acquire Blizzard, Ubisoft, Take-two, or Activision, right now. Although in the long run I think they will be contemplating it.
One thing I have to say is, if the Take-two deal goes down I pray that Rockstar leaves when their contract is up, and also I wish the best for 2K Games because that must suck to eat your game, which is clearly better than EA's, and start developing for their games. Unless EA takes a better turn and decides to let the 2K developers do "their" style on a more realistic sports game, and then EA could lay off on their crap.

Dude, there's so much bull in this thread... F**k!
EA is a big corp, and as such the husband story might happen, but every studio pretty much deal with employement how they see fit. EA Montreal was never and is not like that. I've worked there. I know A LOT of people who work there. Coders, for the most part.
By counting sold products in their store, I arrived at the same conclusion I had before. EA does about 1 original content for 2 follow-up. That is NORMAL in this industry. Any game that sell well will most likelly have about 2 expansion.
There are 4 big categories at EA: EA Sim (guess what they work on), EA Sports (which owns the biggest studio in the world and a stadium!), EA Games and EA Casual (Both having a lot more original content since 2006).
Now, of course some lines of games are full of expansion. TWO OF THE SUBDIVISIONS of the company are basically factory of expansions. Because people like it. And buy it. But more than half the studios are in the 2 other categories. And the internal politics vary a lot by studio. Please, stop spreading rumors. At EA Montreal, overtime is rare, well repaid in free days and benefices and all the advantages are making it easilly the prettiest suitor in Montreal, which has multitude of studios.
You want a soullless corp? Look at Ubisoft. Signing with them means signing a contract that says you can't work in the industry for a role similar to yours for one year after leaving or being kicked(!) by the company. So even if they reject you, you can't go elsewhere. Everyone here is calling this bullshit and completelly wrong. Do you see a lot of other professions where you can't go pratice elsewhere when you lose your job?
Please, enogh with the hate bash.
