has anyboy thought about the irrlicht project participating in GSoC ?

Well basically Google Summer of Code is a place where any development "company" can participate in asking developers to add features/improve features or something like that. Then they have developers, in their "company", provide mentorship to the developer. A lot of companies participate like Sun Microsystems, and other big names that escape my mind right now.

But also other smaller "companies" participate too such as the Blender Foundation which had a project for adding documentation on key Blender concepts. (That ended really well.) Another small one was Detached Solutions (calculator programming team), in which someone created a fully functioning Scheme parser on the TI-83+.

I am not sure what the stipulations are on how established the "company" has to be though, but it would be cool to see Irrlicht in the Google Summer of Code.

By the way, Ogre is participating this year with the following ideas:
- Complete the DX10 render system
- Imposters
- New memory management system
etc.

If I were to take that comment seriously, then I would like to say no. They are just making it so eager developers can show off their skills to the community for whatever they are developing, and possibly make money.

Really Google has no involvement except for being the medium that provides the money. Overall this is just to get developers active, working, and contributing.

I didn't find the time to develop some project descriptions and the general application. But I've marked this in my TODO list with some dates for next year.

Well I thought hookers generally did not get paid at all. Nor have any 100% chance of getting paid.

I think it's a nice idea to get students involved into larger community projects. The money is IMHO not enough to live from it, so it's just a kind of reward and draws some attraction on this thing. And it seems that some projects really had noticeable benefits from GSoCs in the past years.
