It's true that decent art could well bloat the download
Thats why people need to start using .dds files more (does irrlicht even support them, ive never checked, since i rarely use irrlicht)

That sounds a bit harsh fuzzyspoon...

David; Irrlicht doesn't support DDS at the moment, though i think dlangdev was working on a loader which he was going to make a patch for or something... It's a pretty simple file format though i'm not a huge fan of it from using it in my game project on PS3 as i couldn't find a compression that didn't completely screw the quality so i much prefer jpgs and pngs!

see its not harsh, he only gave HIS view as the most important correct one :) so i was doing the same. apologies.

If irrlicht is missing something add it , dont point and complain. Thats all i meant and also, DDS has MAJOR setbacks and has been in debate for a long time.

My point on the thread issue : read the thread title. he is not adding to my thread by spamming his views

and

to JP, my original comment on size was that u can have AWESOME gfx in a tut with minimal filesize. reusing elements etc would be simple and making a very cool set of elements for graphics is something i can do easy.. but it wasnt the point to argue that i was saying in passing :D

Back to the topic at hand.

<offtopic>
Yeah, FuzzySpoon has never been one to hold his opinion, and that's what I like about him. But if you truly need to squeeze some space out for it, wouldn't .JPG's suffice? I am personally a fan of .PNG though, or just making a custom format.

Well I got around to playing it, and I have to say it was kind of fun. The music fit very well, the vibrating graphics were awesome, and my character sucked. :D

I know your probably planning on this, or maybe not, but it would be cool if another song was added as background ambient music as well. Something like an eerie song like that one, but kind of up-beat.

oh dont get me wrong im not saying that nothing else works and im sure dds has drawbacks, i was just saying that its usefull, to be honest most of the work i do I use tga, which is a giant format. Im also not complaining about the lack of dds, I didnt even know whether irrlicht supported it or not. I do wonder why all the hostility tho :P

PS I do really like the look of the gui, It would be nice if you posted a tutorial on the effects you used like you did the glass thing, since i found the glass elements tutorial incredibly helpful, and I use that technique constantly.

yeah i think its that one, a beautiful tutorial. May I ask were you got your art skills? Are you a professional or student, or just lots of expirience? You seem to be great at it.

I just learned by doing. same with programming in essence. i learned by learning :) I didnt study any art stuff i just work at what i can do as i go, ask questions to better artists, experimenting in art brings about new things.

my "scrap file" is
http://newclearfuzzy.deviantart.com
www.ncdd.co.za is my site (soon to be complete)

and u can scroll through these pages,

http://pixofile.co.za/forum/viewtopic.p ... a&start=20

http://pixofile.co.za/forum/viewtopic.p ... a&start=30

most of what i can do i dnt, same problem irrlicht has :) lots of ppl focusing on getting the engine better not making things to show what the engine can do. most of what i do is fast rough work and it comes out ok :p

so as i go i learn.. feel free to request tutorials. i dont mind making them in my spare time.

Wow FuzzySpoon, you graphical work never ceases to amaze me seriously. I would like to request a few tutorials if I may. One being, how do you get those intricate looking designs for leaves/wild bushes or something that you usually have on the side of some of your images, like this:
Image

And also some tutorials or something on how to make a simple site with those cool animations and stuff.

Honestly your site already looks better than a couple of professional sitest that have been produced for industry companies.

hmm, ill look at the tutorials for the leaves thats pretty simple :) also there are "brushes" that are shaped like things, like that "blood splat" is my signature type image that identifies me in large pieces or collaborations. so i made a "brush" in that shape. most graphics program have brushes... you can make reusable shapes. then u can color them as u go, also you can get tons of pre made brushes for most apps (the gimp, paintshop, photoshop) on

www.deviantart.com
www.brusheezy.com
www.dafont.com
www.flashkit.com *(for the site animation/flash tutorials)

Anyway, for the flash site its kinda harder to make a "simple" tutorial of something that intricate but i can show how to isolate the animations to be integrated (if that makes sense) ...

check out these guys, they are MUCH better then me.
