To the Irrlicht Contributors like JP and Hybrid

Post by timmymorris91 »

Hey everyone, this is just a topic about the regular contributors of the Irrlicht forums.

I'd like to propose that the people like JP, Hybrid, Rogerborg and Vitek etc. that have 1000's of posts to introduce themselves in this post and tell us what they do.

Maybe show us a few things that they've written and some screenshots. I'm sure they have made some pretty goo stuff...

Obviously this is the wrong thread for discussion like this, but I'll bite.

My name is Travis Vitek. I'm 30 years old and live in Corvallis, Oregon USA. I've got a wife, a 3 month old daughter, and a 5 year old Jack Russell Terrier named Milo [to your left]. I currently get paid to work full time on the Apache C++ Library project for Rogue Wave Software.

My previous job was for Knife Edge Software, a small game company that develops the radio controlled aircraft simulator RealFlight. I worked on G3, G3.5 as well as Expansion Packs 1, 2 and 3. I have also done some consulting work for RealFlight G4 and Expansion Packs 4 and 5. I worked on almost every part of the product; flight model, physics, multiplayer, user interface, animation, particles, streamers, night flying, and more.

I haven't really written anything using Irrlicht. I just use it as a toy engine to experiment with. I also fly r/c helicopters, bike, hike, and play XBox360.

Nice of you to be interested in us i suppose!

My name's Chris Mash, 23 years old and i live in London, UK with my girlfriend of 3 years (tommorrow ;)). I work at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe as the sole programmer of the Special Projects department. We're a sub-department of Marketing and my main role is basically to program menu interfaces for demo discs and i'm also involved in the upcoming revamp of the in-store PS3's menu system. I have a huge amount of spare time at work as menu interfaces don't need to be made that often so i'm developing a PS3 game as you can see in my signature. Although my PS3 devkit blew up over a month ago and still isn't working again so i've been doing a lot of IrrAI at work which has brought some big improvements to it which i hope to release soon!

As for my other Irrlicht projects you can see those by going to my website, though there's nothing huge there really.

I got into Irrlicht just before my final year of University when i decided to do some AI for an FPS type game and i googled around for engines i could use and was actually looking for Java ones as that's the only suitable language my Uni course had taught me and i found Jirr (java binding for Irrlicht). After Uni i knew i had to learn C++ to get into the games industry so what better tool to help me ease into C++ than Irrlicht, as i was so used to all the workings of it from using Jirr so i just had to switch over to the C++ syntax and then i could continue programming games in C++.

Tim; I love the way you explain where Australia is (as if anyone wouldn't know) and i also love the name of your hometown xD

OMG, I knew that I'm too old for this forum... Anyway, I'm almost 33 (next week!), married for 8 years now, have two daughters (7 and 5 years) and live in the north-west of Germany.
I've worked as a researcher in university for some years, and changed to the research institute in Oldenburg around the time I became a dev team member. Now I am working on embedded systems, hardware design methodology, and other stuff in that area.
I've never made a game with Irrlicht, but I used the engine for visualization apps. We presented a simulation engine at CeBIT some years ago, and also some minor apps here in-house.

I'll just assume this is directed towards me aswell and disreguard the original who are you post from past days.

my name is Midnight I am a dark overlord and I live in a shitbox town I refuse to name in michigan thats the US of A but I was born in the void of time and space.. and I know where austrialia and austria are located. in about a week I'll be 27.... billion years old.. heh.

I'm a self educated game designer.. technically there is not an accurate description for what it is that I do because very few seem to be as ambitious as myself and for very good reason.

I'm currently working on my first commercial game project and my previous work includes a gui editor, a proceedural soundboard, and various other snippets for use with irrlicht or by it.

like roger I've been considered naughty although that was never really my intention I believe it's mostly a conflict of interest between myself and most everyone else. It's a rather long story I'll just keep to myself. I wasn't even going to reply on first thought but you seemed interested so I've put forth the effort.

Good Luck with all your endevours young irrlite you have much to aquire.

I maybe didn't contribute as much as those other fellows but I'll share my story as well as it seems this thread is intended to people with more then 1k posts hehe...
My name is Tomer Nosrati, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Israel (that little country in the middle-east hehe..).
I've started programming at about the age of 15-16 at school.
Discovered Irrlicht in the middle of the last year of high-school and used it to improve my programming skills. My first attempt to create anything with it is my game engine (which isn't ready yet) which I've used as a college project.
Currently (since last week) I'm serving in IDF (Israel Defense Forces) and I'm going through a very intensive programming course (6 days a week, 5 of them from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM), which will last for 3 months. After that I'm going to serve for another 5.5 years doing programming stuff for my country. I love what I'm doing and it makes me feel good.

I've used the Irrlicht engine and the community around it to improve my knowledge of C++ programming, programming in general, graphics terminology and more. I wish you the same happy journey I had and don't be afraid from that path you seem to wish to follow.
May the force be with you!
