h ah ah aha ha
well, nowadays you don't have a "shiny new pc" for more than 6 months!!!! Everything becomes obsolete in such a short period of time.
I'm pissed off cause I boutgh this 5900 nvidia card and 2 weeks after I spent those big bucks I see nvidia has got the 6800 card which is going to be double as fast and cheaper!!!!!!!
arrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
afecelis rips his clothes off in anger, jumps out the street and starts jumping from car to car!!!!!!
ps. But I think it's a good idea because that way you get feedback from different users and just by checking their specs you can reconsider your way of programming stuff or sort out a problem that's hardware dependent.
cheers!

Don't think of it as a 'new' computer, think of it as 'obsolete-ready'. obsolete? nah. they still make and use 286 16mhz CPU's. In F-22 raptors. My p3 800 has been able to run every program I have installed. The only reason anyone needs more and more processing power is to run the bloatware produced by Microsoft.
Six months is about right, tho. I have learned to live about a year behind the 'tech curve'... lol. also I try and 'skip' every other hardware advance. (for example I decided to skip the p4 like the 286 and the p2).
Last PC I had (before this p3 500 that I upgraded to 800mhz) was a P200MMX. The p200MMX can still do most ov the stuff I do on my p3 800. (surf the net, check email, edit text, compile programs, play half-life). Yes, not as 'fast', but it doesn't really bug me.
In 3 months intel is releasing the uncooled 5ghz itanium 5 cpu. I'll be upgrading my PC then.

you're right!
I was running some heavy cad apps on an AMD K6 500mhz the other day and I was surprised to see they almost ran better than on my new pc. Same thing happened with other applications; so it really makes you wonder: "are the clock speeds real?" or "are we getting the real stuff or are they just giving us candy while the good things comes out?" anyway, I'm not a show off person at all; to be honest to have a good PC in my country is expensive and that means tons of hard work.
Too bad I'll get the same feeling I had with the GeforceFX5900 in 3 months (when Intel launches its new processor)!
When will they release the real "state of the art" and not the "one-step-behind-because-of-commercial-purposes" technology?
cheers!
