Cool, they actually are free and they load without a hitch. The only problem I have is within the license:
the product must be compiled and protected with resource encryption, so it exist only within the program code and may not be rebuilt from the compiled binary.
I don't really understand why that is a requirement when the model is distributed freely, and no one person has an exclusive license to it.

It is impossible anyway. To be drawn, it must be sent to the graphic card and can there be intercepted. Of course, you could scramble the order in which you send your polygons, but that would just kill performance and not really stop someone who is determined as he could just get the scene and chop all useless polygon. Well, you could do picture composition, I guess, but by then you're REALLY better off doing your own models...

Hey there, nice models, nice site - not annoying.

The only suggestion I'd make is to edit your post to make it just a *little* bit clearer that only some of the models you've posted pics for are for free. (i.e. not the quite good looking character models).

he wants not someone take the model and distribute by himself, it seems... Like ok for them to give it free(a licensed use, as property of model keeps being theirs, but according to license, you can do comercial games, no probs), but as long as you grab from them. I guess is only explanation...

btw, is a requirement often we graphic artist do...

yet when I was paid for that, close to no times that measure was taken in consideration.

Anyway, its free, surely convenient to several of you, I suppose.

er.. Wasnt this before 3dcg something? like, there was a pair of warrior models with one only shoulder protector.. .may be I am just now having not clear in my memory...At this very moment.

The quality of the models is quite better than many placeholder models I have seen being used here, and of many actual irrlicht games, so imo is a good gift for programmers, no?

That is not the problem. The problem is this:

and may not be rebuilt from the compiled binary.
It is IMPOSSIBLE or nearly to fulfill this requirement. Unless of course you draw everything from the cpu. But even then, a wise crack could do it. Something along the lines of doing everything reasonable in order to prevent it's theft would make more sense.

I guess they maybe happy if you molebox it or sth, so to stop a majority of the crackers, yet as known, is only needed.. one... ;)

what does a protection do, actually? protects againts a percetage of people and situations, if I can give an opinion...

Nice models, but you're using photographs of people's trademarks without permission. I'm pretty sure that Dell, ATI and Apple won't mind the free advertising, but it's not very professional.

Just curious, but if you buy a model before it gets updated, and then it gets updated, do you automatically get the update? Basically, are the people who originally bought Adam getting screwed?

They look like very nice models, its always good to have generic 3D resources and I hope this one continues to grow.

I would agree with the previous posts about the license though and the statement "may not be rebuilt from the compiled binary" should be reviewed to require a developer to take steps to protect your material from casual duplication while acknowledging that it is impossible to achieve that definitively.

I assume the files could be encrypted and built into the executable then decrypted and loaded with the mesh commands through an IFileSystem::createMemoryReadFile command. However its more convenient to store your resources into a separate resource file encrypted or not.

I would recommend that 3d4ya.com provide some links on their license page to resources that developers can use to implement the requirements of the license.
