Has anyone dealt with 2D effect beds and transitions?

Has anyone dealt with 2D effect beds and transitions?

I'm curious if anyone has tackled things like "2D" plasma or fire effects...

And has anyone done any transition effects (screen melts like "DOOM") to transition two scenes?

This is all, obviously, in relation to the Irrlicht engine.

well a hint should be post processing^^
We're programmers. Programmers are, in their hearts, architects, and the first thing they want to do when they get to a site is to bulldoze the place flat and build something grand. We're not excited by renovation:tinkering,improving,planting flower beds.
