What rendering techniques do they use to get this terrain to look so

good?. It should be possible with Irrlicht right?. I don't understand if that's a paralax map, or something else, just high poly maybe?.
That would be illogical captain...

well, 1.2 mio tris at 21 FPS - yes, that's high-poly. And yes, that's also possible with Irrlicht. Just try it :P

Checkout ANYYYY of the terrain software to make standalone terrains. Using them is another thing but :

look for grome terrain software l3td etc etc.. they all can look incredible.

The texturing of the terrain might be a bit more tricky, requiring an appropriate shader but good luck with it.

Not seeing anything special here? Except that the heightmap is all jagged. L3DT's terrains look much better I think :)
