Looking for a Secure MediaWiki?

Post by MasterGod »

Hi,

I want to open a media wiki with information I would like to secure.

Does anybody knows where can I create a free MediaWiki wiki that will be secure against hackers etc.?

P.S
Also searching Google..

Thanks!

MediaWiki is pretty stable software, it has to be because Wikipedia is the 8th biggest website in the world. The only problem is with spammers. Wikipedia use blacklists but you can just use the reCAPTCHA plugin instead.

MediaWiki was never really designed to hide information from people. Although it is possible to create a group and hide read access from anonymous users, I wouldn't put a bet on MediaWiki standing up to a good hack attempt.

The thing is that I want to use it to organize information regarding some project I'm doing, commercial project and I don't want anyone else getting that information beside some persons and I know a simple user code and password won't stop a novice hacker and I can't allow that.

If MediaWiki isn't that secure, do you have any other suggestions?

P.S
Do you think Google is safe enough? It must have some application that could be as good as MediaWiki, at least for my purposes, but can I trust it?... :?

Wy not use a url like: www.yourdomain.tld/lwsdkjhuivbdverysecretwikiawsdf/ ?

Then place a robot.txt to disallow google and other search engines from indexing.

PS: Never trust Google.

or! place the media wiki behind an authentication, so the members / teammembers login with (for example) a nt login box (using NT accounts),
