most impressive irrlicht demo / project ?

Post by Guest »

hello irrlicht community,

what do you think is the most impressive irrlicht demo / project so far? to me it seems that this community mostly consists of people interested in coding and most demos / projects i saw so far suffer from coder art. i am just curious... :)

Having pretty graphics isn't everything. I'd take coder art and some solid gameplay over some flashy graphics and no substance any day. I still play X-Com and we are talking 320x320 or some resolution along those lines. I'd rather play that than some of these crappy RTS games with flashy graphics that come out on a weekly basis.

All open source projects struggle to find artists and modellers, simple fact of open source development. Those who can are going to get work and sell it. There's plenty of programmers about though, so many more are prepared to work for free in order to break into the industry ( or like me, just for fun ).

I don't think the art work in my project is that bad and now I have two guys helping out who happen to be good at art as well it will surely only get better.

I think the Raptor demo was the best ;-)

My vote for the best demo goes to that physics demo. The Mercior Newton Physics demo is awesome and shows that very cool stuff is possible with Irrlicht. Tyn's 2080 is pretty cool too.

You're right there Tyn. 8) I see RTS games today that have great graphics but where's the substance? Some people will say multiplayer, but I don't play multiplayer nor do I intend to. I suppose that's why I got so in depth with Dark Reign. It did have VERY good singleplayer elements. And it too was a 256 colour, 640x480 DirectX 3 game! Gameplay isn't in the graphics, it's in the code and the 'heart' of the game.

Graphics wise, I think Afecelis has come up with the best work.

thnx guys! I'm totally flattered!

too bad my programming skills suck!!! he he he h e

I agree that not everything is spiffy levels. That's why we have to team up for a whole project to work.

I hat a test demo level uploaded somewhere but I had to erase it since my space got full, h ehehe e

Anyway, it's still the screenshot of the month; a modified version of the test level specially redesigned for Colin is being used in the Goretek project.
there's a wallpaper of the alpha version here:

That's pretty much what my brain has achieved with this engine, ah ahahah

Guest, why the question about the architectural visualizations? r u from the UERT forums?

I still use the UERT for walkthrus since it's a put-up-and-play engine and importing models from 3dsmax is painless and they all show up properly textured but I haven't uploaded any new projects there either. I've been a bit busy at my job. But I'd love to do some architectural stuff with Irrlicht. We'll see how things evolve.

cheers!

lol!!! I forgot that you can see each other's profiles

Sorry if it sounded paranoid.

I don't know if many of the shots are there anymore. Let me know if you find something.

If not I'll relink you to some of them.

cheers
