Yes IrrEdit is built by niko, the original core developer of Irrlicht, and I believe he is still the project lead. He has been asked many times about his lack of support for Linux, but if you want to talk to him yourself, then I recommend you visit the ambiera forums, or e-mail him.
Then don't complain. Vindows(!) is not as bad as your signature implies.
After a hard day in the mines, fighting lions with his bare hands, a real man comes home and uses Windows because he's got some balls. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
i find irredit very easy to use, specially lightmapping, compared to other SW where there are so many steps. and .irr created can automatically be loaded in irrlicht.
