Free models for the irrlicht community.

Post by Valerien »

Hi everyone,

i'm a french 17 years old beginner graphist, musician and programmer, and i've been using irrlicht for a couple of days (errr 3 days... ). I wanted to give some test models to the community. I'll add new packs as i model new things.

The textures are quite big so you can modify their size, add tags, etc. and then divide the size per 2 so they keep an average quality...

So for now there's :
- a 12 pounder cannon with 1024 diffuse and normal.
- a musket with 1024 diffuse. 4 parts are untextured : they're parts that can be animated so i didn't want to put AO on them.
- a tree with a 1024 diffuse and normal for the trunk, and diffuse and alpha for the leaves.
- a terrain with a 256 displace, 2048 diffuse and normal.
- A really big rock with like a 1024 diffuse (so you can reuse it for all the rocks of a level). I can make a normal from the diffuse if you wish ?
- a bridge with 1024 diffuse and normal.

They're all in obj format. If you'd like to have another one, simply ask.

Their quality, style etc. are different, 'cause they're like all the models i've done since september 2008... i hope this will be usefull, for tests etc.
You can use this for any purpose... as I am quoted in the credits ;) (i don't think they'll be used in a commercial project, but in that case please contact me by private message).

I'll try to do an irrlicht scene with the maps applied to the objects.
Ah, and i'll try to get a good FTP to upload this.

Here are some renders of them :

Very nice Valerien! The quality of the models are excellent! Good job!

Great models, thanks a lot! :D

Although I noticed the material files for the bridge and tree contained absolute texture paths so had to be manually modified to get working correctly.

Thanks for the comments.

EDIT :
sorry for the mtl files. The paths shall be... C\..\texturename.extension ?

That can be solved easily!

To remove all the paths in your MAX files (for MAX 5 and above)

Go to the Utility panel. Open the "Bitmap/Photometric Paths" utility. If you can't see it, open it in the "More" button.

There, you can use the "Strip all paths" utility, and that will remove any path that the textures may have. That way, you can share more easily (and conveniently) your models, or to solve quickly the missing path issue :)

Hey everyone, err... I've got some time these days (holidays) and i was wondering : which kind of models would you like to get next ?
I'll try to make generic ones, and also... interesting ones ;). I simply won't make characters or vehicles 'cause it takes much time to build, but...

Well, if you need something, simply ask.

Well, Valerien, first of all I thank you for your kindness for giving us such good models. You spent time creating it for to use freely? I really appreciate it.

Now, about your question :D , I'd like to have guns, but not the usual, more like combination of old and modern weapons. For example a crossbow with missile launcher (so it could shoot arrows and missiles), or an old rifle (something like this) with flamethrower attached to it.. Stuff like that :) .
And if you could add for example to the crossbow an animation of shooting arrows that would be totally awesome.

These two would be great for me if you have the time.
And if it's not too rude I'd like it in the following formats:
.X (DirectX), .MS3D (MilkShape 3D) and .b3d (I think it's Blitz3D) oh and if you made it in blender I would like the .blender file as well.

And even if you won't make any of these I still thank you for your offer.

Damn MasterGod was faster than me. I'd like to have a fully equipped terran space station with a cool, modern, realistic look. :)

Well MasterGod i'd like to make models for model packs ;). The kind of thing that'd be useful for more than just a team (else i would have asked a team to let me in). So sorry, I won't do this kind of stuff (and well that's like i'd love to do this kind of stuff).

Well a space station...

http://www.pcgamefuntime.com/wp-content ... nflict.jpg

... reaaally takes a lot of time to build.

So i'll try to do one, 'cause they're space's games generic objects, but if someone ask a small object first i'll do it. And remember that everyone will be able to access it ;).

Now don't forget that I need an average polycount and some refs to know the style you'd like to get ;).

I simply have to agree with the above comments, thanks for providing these extremely high quality models and textures, you have done an excellent job in creating them. It would be nice to see some real time renderings of them on the long screenshots thread elsewhere in this forum.

Indeed! Kudos to you, here's an internet, a piece of robot and 3 thumbs up.

Oh, and if you have some time, the Irr comunity is actively looking for various models to help them test their optimization techniques, so you could look for that topic in this section and help there ^^
