See trough half-sphere

Post by serengeor »

I've modeled simple cube and I cut out rectangle in which I put half sphere.
in blender it looks nice but :( ...
When I load it in irrlicht its invisible from one side and there aren't collisions when object falls on it.

Turn off backface culling.

It worked for rendering.
but collisions still don;t work.
I'm using irrnewt and irrlicht 1.5 . (btw collisions work on other maps like quake one in examples)

I guess collision doesn't like backfacing triangles either. Try going back into the modeler and flipping the triangles that can not be seen. This way, they should be seen in the program and affect collision.

I agree with Lonesome Ducky here, because you can see it from inside the cube, but not from the outside, so the faces are showing in the wrong direction... ;)
but it's strange that they seem to be right orientated inside Blender ???
(backface culling is not an option, because you still won't see the faces then, but only the backfaces)

Yep, that's the problem. Select the spherical section in Blender and click "flip normals" in the edit pane. If you turn on the normals you'll find that they're facing the wrong way.

(double sided has *no effect* in Blender export to Irrlicht, if you want a double sided object you have to duplicate it in place and flip the normals of the duplication)

Another alternative is to select the entire mesh in Blender (In edit mode) and press Ctrl-N, then Recalculate Normals Outside.

in this case it isn't strange then...

If you need some help, don't spit on people. Trust me, you are going to need their help sometime.

Just select that half-sphere in some program and flip normals.
What now??? =_=''

Well the problem is solved by flipping faces.
I'm such a noob at modeling
