Forcing GLSL?

Post by 3DModelerMan »

I really want to use GLSL shaders in some of my programs. But my GPU doesn't support GLSL, so I was wondering. Is there a way to force GLSL shaders to run on the processor? I have a decently fast processor. And I know that performance will be way higher for my users that actually have GLSL cards. But I just want to be able to test the applications to make sure the shaders are setup right.

Is it a driver issue or is it that the gpu is so old and lame that it doesn't support it? Or is one of these built-in-the-mobo pieces-of-junk? What actual GPU do you have (please be very specific, if you can)?

If you have paypal account perhaps we could get some of the people on the Irrlicht forums to donate a little cash each so you can buy a decent graphics card. Even cheap cards can do DX10-level stuff these days...

Actually the issue isn't that I don't have the money to upgrade. It's that I can't. I have an integrated chip. The Mobile Intel Express Chipset Family 945GM, I think it was. I can do HLSL just not GLSL and I upgraded my drivers just the other day and nothing worked.

If you have a free pci express slot, you can still upgrade with an integrated graphics chip. You need just disable the chip in device manager, install your new one, then install its drivers

I think he has a laptop so hes kinda stuck unless he buys a whole new pc. If you run linux I think the MESA drivers can emulate GLSL to an extent.

You could also try the reference D3D driver for SM 3.0 and SM 4.0 effects (Your graphics card can only do up to SM 2.0 in D3D).

The reference D3D driver? How do you enable that? What are the MESA drivers? Do you have a link?

So MESA is actually a driver project?

If you have HLSL in hardware then use that. The D3D9 REF device is software only.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I was curious about the Vidock2
http://www.villagetronic.com/vidock2/index.html
I can't seem to find what the difference between buying the Vidock2 or the Vidock2 box is. It seems like I would only really need the box itself and another monitor (now that I can just go get a free graphics card in the aCompetiton time section  ). What's the difference?
