Blender texturing question

Post by Murloc992 »

Let's say I have UV unwrapped model and want to texture it, how can I do this using material itself, not the UV/image editor? I mean how do they do that texture->material link when only material is textured but not all the mesh? Tried using google but it gave me no useful results. :?

Murloc, what you searched for was to bake the textures and materials from materials to a UV texture, right?

Dunno what is that 'bake' but what I want is like texturing using material itself. Like you assign texture to material and then it textures using UV coordinates. :)

This is still hard to understand what you want to do. Do you mean texturing a model using only material settings without a texture ???

Maybe you misunderstood this material thing, the material feature in blender "only" gives you the ability to modify specific material values like specular, bump value etc. But for all these values you need some textures to be assigned to this material. Texturing only with material settings (without textures) let you only modify values like alpha channel or color, which will be used by irrlicht. All other values dont have any effect if you load the model into irrlicht.

xray I mean to texture a model like you did with one in your skeletal animation example :? Worst thing is that I can't get UI to be shown in your .blend file of the human model :D

I created the textures of the model from my skeleton in photoshop, and applied them in the uv editor. Today I would do it a different way: link the textures to the material which is applied to the model.

ah ok, this sentence confused me "...link when only material is textured but not all the mesh?"
