What Version of Collada Does Irrlicht Support?

Post by Lynn »

Hi all,

Im asking because a search hasn't turned anything up yet.

Also, of the version that is supported - what is supported? I gather than animation is not supported at all.

I tried importing a Collada file exported from our forthcoming Shade 10, but managed to crash both our engine implementation for Runtime Revolution as well as IrrEdit. I thought at first it could be something simply wrong with the Collada Exporter in Shade, but the same model imported just fine into Vue 8.

Your help is appreciated :D

We should support the latest Collada versions, IIRC 1.4 and 1.5. Animation is not supported, also just triangles/polygons and no lines. I'm not sure if additional polygon informations, such as third texture coord or other things could cause a problem. Maybe you can upload a crashing collada mesh somewhere for us to test?

Sure thing - Ill generate a small one.

Is Collada support set up to catch errors (and not crash) if it encounters something in a file it doesn't currently support?

Well, all elements that are unknown are ignored. This shold work pretty safely. The parser will also mention certain elements which it thinks to be wrong in a place. The parser is far from being near completion, though.
